100 Milliom Page Views For Trend Hunter

Tuesday 21 July 2009 @ 8:38 am

trendhunter reaches 100 millionTrend Hunter has officially reached 100 million views… Yee Ha! Thanks to all of you for making it happen. In particular, thanks to all of the Trend Hunters who have fueled our community into what it has become today!

As we reach this milestone, I can’t help but be nostalgic, which is partially why I am so happy to be writing this article at 4am EST.

It seems like only a year ago that I was working full time at Capital One and working on this little website during the wee hours of the morning… But actually, it was a year and a half ago. ;)

We’ve been lucky to grow so quickly and I suppose that’s a testament to the fact that we’ve been so passionate about Trend Hunter. Also, Sarah Palin helped.

For each of us who write, program, or contribute, Trend Hunter is our baby, and it is exciting to see her growing.

For me, Trend Hunter is not a job, it is a hobby. I feel like I’m retired and working on what I love… Thanks for making that all possible.
Here are some of my favorite memories:

- The first day we had a million views in one day.

- Getting on the front page of Yahoo.com three times.

- Pee and poo dolls.

- Hot Vice Presidents (1,100,000 views, etc)

- Ranking #7 for “Britney Spears pictures” when she shaved her head.

- Watching the site go offline because apparently a lot of people look for Britney Spears pictures.

- Meeting Bianca and letting her convince me to hire her before I quit my own job.

- Spending a whole dinner trying to convince Jacob to join, only to learn that he was already going to accept… He just liked getting sold again.

- Having access to Marissa on speakerphone speed dial.

- Ayman. For all of his ideas and passion for the site.

- Sixty. For being awesome.

- Cowbag. For being relentlessly shocking and creative.

- Getting our first office.

- The day we switched from legal disclaimers that I made up to stuff written by a lawyer.

- Getting an ad agency.

- Terror fashion.

- Getting Trend Hunter in the news.

- Being interviewed by WIRED.

- Getting into the ECONOMIST.

- When TheEnd 102.7 asked if we were related to MilfHunter (the answer is that we aren’t).

- Our second episode of THTV (Shockvertising).

- Getting banned in China.

- Guy Kawasaki’s interview.

- When MTV said, “Find out what’s cool before it’s cool, at TrendHunter.com.”

- When someone at a conference came up and sincerely thanked me for providing Trend Hunter and told me that his ad agency uses us very day.

- Our first 60 trend day.

- Celebrating when GoingLikeSixty hit 1000 trends… Also, creating his avatar.

- Making Eva Mendes day, to blatantly get more traffic.

- Meeting Pearl, Elsa and Vincent in real life.

- When Tom Kelley of IDEO said people should get the Trend Hunter newsletter to open their minds and become more creative.

- When Kanye West sourced us in his blog.

- When Ashton Kutcher tweeted that he loved us.

- When HotForWords sent us a video intro (not released yet).

- When Auto Tune the News sent us a video intro.

- Auto Tune The News in general (unrelated to this list, but man I love that stuff).

- Playing the drums on Entertainment Tonight.

- Getting invited by Ford to fly private planes, race trucks down the public highway with police escorts, and watch a Nascar race from the pit.

- Jacob’s expression when we had to replace our dev server with a $400 laptop.

- Launching the Trend Report with Bianca in NYC.

- Tomorrow, and whatever fun it will bring.

Feel free to add your own memories!

Automatic Social Bookmarking Increases Profits For Businesses

Thursday 25 June 2009 @ 11:07 pm

marketers-are-said-to-love-the-new-automatic-social-bookmarking-serviceFor Internet marketers, the time in which they can make the largest amount of profit is the key to any success story and despite the fact that many knew about the power of submitting their content to social bookmarking sites, the time it took simply made the exercise futile in many people’s eyes.

It was this realization that brought web promotions experts uSocial.net to the conclusion that a solution to this problem was needed and eventually, they solved it with one of their latest services.

uSocial’s automatic social bookmarking service, which they claim is the only one of its kind anywhere in the world, allows they customers to submit an unlimited amount of links to over 230 social sites with no effort, for one flat monthly fee.

“Before we even launched we had existing customers asking us if such a service was available,” Said uSocial’s CEO, Leon Hill. “We looked into it and figured out we could possibly provide a solution to the problem our clients were facing and luckily, we cracked it in a short amount of time.”

What uSocial created was a piece of software that allowed them to submit links en masse to hundreds of social bookmarking sites in minutes, which was well short of the hours it would take by manual hands.

“The difference between our service and that of our competitors is that we take all the work out of our clients’ hands.” Said Hill. “All that’s required is they email the links in to us – we do all the rest.”

Retailing at $47 per month, the service allows clients to submit any amount of links they want to all the sites supported by uSocial for as long as they remain a member. And while there are other services out there which fulfill similar roles, uSocial say theirs is head and shoulders above all the rest.

“I know of simply nothing else on the market that does what out automatic social bookmarking service does.” Finished Hill.

Tired of Twitter? 2OO,000 executives choose business over social

Thursday 4 June 2009 @ 1:22 am

10232537-wwwmeetthebosscomSocial networking sites are great to catch-up with old friends, share photographs, music and links but in this climate does the executive community have time for this?’ Asked Spencer Green CEO of MeettheBoss.com – the business networking service. ’’Credit isn’t the only casualty of the crunch: time is another scarce resource for executives, they need immediate value when online’’ and reports show he is right with 200,000 executives flooding to his business site for answers.

MeettheBoss.com first launched for the financial services sector in Q3 of 2008 and has just unveiled a new and improved version (to launch May 11th 2009)– redesigned with increased functionality and features, and specifically launched to aid all professionals.
MeettheBoss.com 2.0 has acted on the feedback from its core users to make sure that their time ‘on site’ is maximized. “We have added the functionality they wanted and kept the best of what we already offered: instant access to a network of your peers.” Harlan Davis one of the site’s directors.

Rolling out with the new version is an upgraded version of MeettheBossTV, the online television channel dedicated to business leaders.

Members can pick up leadership lessons and business learning from: Vinton Cerf, vice president of Google and ‘father’ of the Internet; Werner Vogels, CTO and vice president for online retail giant and web services supremo, Amazon; Manfred Fitzgerald, head of brand and design and super-sportscar manufacturer Lamborghini;

Gary Steel, EVP and head of Human Resources at engineering giant ABB, and; Tony Hsieh, CEO of US retail rocket, Zappos.com and perhaps the sharpest customer service innovator in America today.

Amongst the sites other new features are free video roundtable functionality, a fully searchable whitepaper module, and most importantly, ‘smartwords’ – an intelligent spine around which the whole site sits.“MeettheBoss.com was built on an ever-expanding database of keywords, dedicated to specific industries,” explains Harlan. “A very cool new central console ‘feeds’ members specific content, people, and broadcasts based on their activity across the site – from the weather, to tweets, industry blogs, contacts, and news from the individual users favourite newspaper. Smartwords means you get everything in one place, quickly and easily. And if you want to connect with a network of your peers, or join in a peer-led discussion group, well, you can do that too. It’s the ultimate aggregator”

It seems like sites such as MeettheBoss are the future of Web 2.0. – Well 200,000 executive members seem to agree. To find out more go to www.meettheboss.com

Internet Marketers Get Ahead When They Buy Twitter Followers

Thursday 28 May 2009 @ 10:40 pm

10246010-usocials-twitter-marketing-services-allow-internet-marketers-to-get-ahead1In the online world, everyone’s searching for a way to save time or profit faster and when it comes to Twitter, it’s well known that the faster you can get followers, the faster you will begin to reap profits from the site.

And while there are dozens of systems, products and ebooks out there on the market which state they’ll help anyone amass a whole load of followers, one company is claiming they possess the Holy Grail when it comes to Twitter followers.

Web traffic agency uSocial.net recently launched a suite of products based around Twitter which include a service which allows their clients to buy followers. Sold in packages of 1,000 to 100,000, the company says they almost can’t keep up with demand.

“Twitter is definitely the ‘in-thing’

at the moment when it comes to social media marketing,” said uSocial CEO Leon Hill. “As we’re based around helping people make the most of this kind of advertising, we were quick to design products around this site.”

uSocial say the most interested partied have been Internet marketers and large companies and they claim they already have several Fortune 500 companies and celebrities on board.

“The word has spread fast about what we’re offering and it seems that as everyone wants a larger slice of the Twitter pie, they’re jumping on the chance to invest in our services.” Said Hill.

More information on the new services can be found at http://usocial.net/twitter_marketing or to contact the company directly you can email them via the contact form on their website.
