Darvin Moon Leading in World Series of Poker Main Event

Tuesday 14 July 2009 @ 7:50 pm

world-series-of-poker.2568906,494 players all had a dream of winning the 2009 World Series of Poker main event.

Of those 6,500 players, only 101 remain.

Darvin Moon is the current chip leader of the main event, as he has taken approximately 5.7 million chips with him into the Day 6 dinner break.

Billy Kopp (5.18 million), Antoine Saout (4.81 million), Hamid Nourafchan (4.81 million) and Wesley Ismay (4.2 million) also have top 5 stacks at this point.

Phil Ivey currently has around 2.68 million in chips, thanks in large part to a big hand that took place about a half hour ago.

Ivey got all-in against his opponent pre-flop holding pocket Kings, while his opponent (Bob Whalen) held A-K offsuit.

Whalen didn’t manage to connect and was sent to the rail. Ivey, on the other hand, managed to add to his more-than-respectable stack.

Ivey was on the brink of elimination yesterday, but managed to quickly accumulate chips to stay alive in the tournament.

There are a number of well-known names who are also still alive in the main event. They are:

Eugene Katchalov (3.6 million)
Fabrice Soulier (3.55 million)
Jeff Shulman (3.2 million)
Antonio Esfandiari (2.33 million)
Dennis Phillips (2.2 million)
Adam “Nestegg” Bilzerian (1.91 million)
Tom Schneider (1.44 million)
Owen Crowe (1.4 million)
Hac “trex313″ Dang (1.04 million)
Peter Eastgate (940k)
Prahlad Friedman (700k)
Noah Boeken (481k)
Joe Sebok (300k)

David Benyamine, Joe Hachem and JC Tran were some of the names that hit the rail on Day 6.

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, who was near the top of the leaderboard for almost two full days, has also been eliminated from the main event.

Liz Watson Wants Out!

Tuesday 9 June 2009 @ 3:26 am

barry-liz-and-dauterLiz Watson, the wife of MLB slugger Barry Bonds apparently wants out of there eleven year marriage, Liz has turned in the paper work in LA requesting a legal separation from him  court records show.

Liz Bonds, who married the former Giants slugger in 1998, is seeking spousal support and custody of the couple’s 10-year-old daughter, according to the filing Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

She cited irreconcilable differences. They have lived in Beverly Hills since 2003.

“Divorce has been coming ever since the BALCO thing started,” said a person who knows the couple, referring to the sports steroid scandal involving Burlingame’s Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative. He asked not to be quoted by name discussing their marriage.

Bonds first marriage to Susann Margreth Branco ended in a 1994 high-profile divorce over the pre-nuptial agreement the pair had signed. The trial dragged on for months under the glare of the media lights and Bonds eventually was awarded reduced support. The couple had two children including Nikolai, who was often seen in the dugout as a bat boy.

Bonds, holder of baseball’s career home run record, is awaiting trial in federal court on perjury charges, accused of lying under oath when he told a grand jury that he had never knowingly taken banned drugs.

A key prosecution witness in the case is former Bonds girlfriend Kim Bell, who says the slugger once confided to her that he was using steroids.

Bell has told authorities that she began dating Bonds in 1994, during the breakup of his marriage to his first wife, Sun. Bell said the relationship continued for five years after Bonds married the former Liz Watson, whom he met in a club in Montreal.

Bell’s claims got widespread publicity – at one point she posed in Playboy magazine – and it put strains on the marriage. So did Bonds’ forced retirement from baseball. His last Giants contract expired after the 2007 season, and no other team signed him.

Bonds, 44, is accused of lying about his steroid use in 2003 testimony before a grand jury investigating the sale of performance-enhancing drugs by BALCO.

Belmont Stakes 2009 Predictions and Picks

Friday 5 June 2009 @ 11:48 pm

belmont-stakes1There are never enough betting picks for the 2009 Belmont Stakes so let’s go back to the well and make some more predictions.

We are going to take a look at some of the more obscure betting picks being offered for the 2009 Belmont Stakes and hopefully our predictions come true in the form of some extra money in your pocket on the day of the race this Saturday.

TheOnlinewire.com teamed up with our preferred online racebooks, Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook to bring our readers the latest news and the best odds to bet on each of the three legs of the Triple Crown 2009.

Bodog Racebook celebrates the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes offering $50 match bonus to each new customer who will sign up and deposit $50 between now and June 6th 2009. Yes! Deposit $50 get $50 match bonus! Click here to redeem this offer now.

There are four interesting bets that are currently being offered at online racebooks and we’ll make predictions on every one of these Belmont possibilities.

The first one asks whether or not the winning horse this year will best Da’Tara’s 5 ¼ length margin of victory that he achieved in last year’s version of the Belmont Stakes.  You can get 5/2 odds if you think that is a beatable margin of victory but I don’t think it’s one of the better picks considering that Belmont races are generally close.

Next asks whether or not the winning horse in this year’s race will beat Da’Tara’s winning time of 2:29:65 and I like taking the 2/1 odds on the “No” due to the slow expected pace in this year’s race.  It’s definitely a beatable time but I think the winner will get nearly the same which makes the 2/1 odds very profitable over the long run for betting picks.

Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook provide horse wagering enthusiasts the highest wagering standards along with enticing promotions and sign up bonuses and financial safety.

SBG Global Racebook now offers up to 60% horse racing betting bonus, 5% online horse betting rebate, straight and exotic horse betting on over 200 horse betting racing tracks. Click here to open your horse wagering account with SBG Global Racebook now.

Mine That Bird’s sire Birdstone won the Belmont Stakes in 2004 and you can bet whether or not the favored horse will be able to best his father’s 2:27:50 final time.  The slow pace in this year’s race should prevent any hopes for Mine That Bird beating that time and you have to like adding the “No” at -400 to your Belmont picks this year.  Predictions call for a race at least a second slower.  I just don’t see a fast race this year.

Lastly, you can bet on whether or not Mine That Bird runs a faster race than Thunder Gulch did (2:32:02) as the last horse to take home both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes.  That is a really slow time but anything is possible so I’d recommend not playing anything in this prop.

The “Yes” is at -400 and that’s simply too high to risk money on when making your betting picks with predictions calling for a slow race.

will barrow’s death galvanizes Cavaliers

Saturday 23 May 2009 @ 10:45 pm

will-barrowAs Virginia’s players and coaches prepare for the men’s lacrosse Final Four, Will Barrow is never far from their thoughts. In fact, they want to be reminded of him, hence the team T-shirts that bear the expression, “Just the boys.”

It’s a saying that many associate with Barrow, a co-captain for the Cavaliers’ team that reached the Division I men’s lacrosse semifinals in 2008.

“It’s a term that morphed into a rallying cry for the team,” said Max Pomper, one of UVa’s co-captains this year. “When everything hit the fan, all we had was each other. When the going gets tough, it’s just about us, just about the boys.
